Geoff Merrill McLaren Vale Reserve Shiraz 2011

From the dreaded 2011 vintage. A challenging year but one where the good winemakers stood up and worked their magic. Case in point here. A more than enjoyable wine.

Twenty months in French and American oak before being released with 6 years aging already under its belt. Cedar and caramel, oak plays its part and perhaps is slightly on the heavy side of the ledger. Dark fruits and berries are held by cinnamon, pepper and Christmas cake spices. Dark chocolate flashes late finishing long with some bitter cocoa clutching at the finish. A wine which will definitely please those seeking a bigger style.

Give it a good decant and enjoy now to eight years.
