Golden Grove Estate Joven Tempranillo 2017

Year after year this Joven is pursued with haste and sold out in quick time as a result. A superb drink in anyone's language. The juicy fruit the pièce de résistance. Run to this, don't walk.

Chatting to winemaker Ray Costanzo, he tells me, "The Joven train continues. Except I have started to open the doors to more texture in this style. In 2017 we were very fortunate to get the Tempranillo in before the rain and as such is probably one of my best reds from that vintage. Thirteen percent of this wine is whole bunch fermented and 65% natural fermentation." I can add that it's 100% delicious too.

Dark cherries and juicy plums galore. The colour is bright and throws out the welcome mat. Rose petals plus glimpses of meat jus and pan juices all combine delivering a wine of joyous proportions. Juicy tannins are drying and a tad chalky leaving charcuterie flavours for you to contemplate. Oh yes, the train continues alright.

Drink now.
