Tim Shand makes wines dripping with interest. He writes a good label too. "Pulling apart Gris and putting it back together again one piece at a time," he says. This is Pinot Gris, but not as you know it. For 22 bucks, a textural exploration awaits.
Fermented on skins for two weeks before pressing to old French oak, there is a delightful blush appearance about this wine. Dried cranberries and currants make a play early with attractive musk scents to draw you closer. The creamy texture is the hero though. Riding long, it delivers a wonderful mouthfeel and presence. A dash of white pepper with dried thyme, hints of fennel and a faint almond nuttiness, you could sit on a glass for a while and be captivated. I was. Bravo Mr Winemaker for this.
