Yangarra Estate High Sands Grenache 2018

Yangarra's top Grenache and there's nothing stopping its impressive beauty. Another brilliant release from the High Sands with this 2018 edition.

Planted in 1946, these bush vines sit in pure silica that runs six metres deep. The wine was kept on lees for 21 days then saw time in seasoned French oak and ceramic egg for eleven months. This 2018 sees the RRP skip up an additional $40 too.

Grenache is, as a general rule, ready to go once bottled. But I found this will benefit from time in the cellar or enjoy once decanted. Tasted over a few days, its evolution was immense. A wonderful wine on opening, but damn, what dream boat it morphed into.

It's all dark berries, aniseed, dried herbs and some earthiness. The sandy soils show themselves with dusty and sandy tannins. Layers of pleasure entwine with cloves and cedar merging into the fray late. Wonderfully balanced with sublime width and depth, it's a wine to savour. Above all, it just feels great. Picture drinking Grenache on a cloud - that.
