It's been a while since I have seen this wine, so it's great to be back in the saddle. A more focused and detailed Chardonnay from Corryton Burge, its appeal is immediate from the first whiff.
White-fleshed nectarines lead the charge, joined by lemon zest and a flicker of barbecued peach. Eight months in French oak brings a layer of creaminess with custard, wafers and biscuity nuances. There's plenty of flavour through the core, while a yellow grapefruit tang brings some energy framed by ginger nut biscuit spices. What introduces itself as a Chardonnay of presence and concentration, curiously, the finish is where it loses a little momentum. It thins out a touch towards the close, pulling back some of the delight that piqued my interest. Still, there's enough joy and interest to keep things on an even keel. Serve with something creamy or even a bachelor's handbag and you're set.
