Hayes Family Wines Block 9 Shiraz 2024

Ordinarily, I'd reach straight for the Hayes Family Wines Block 1 Shiraz as my preferred, but on this occasion I found myself firmly in the Block 9 camp.

Sourced from certified organic vines planted in the 1940s, growing in gravelly loam over white clay with virtually no topsoil, this is an unapologetically Barossa Shiraz with personality to burn.

Blackberries and liquorice bullets charge out of the blocks before ripples of red fruits and dark cherries bring brightness to the generous fruit core. Dark chocolate, fruit cake and fruit bun notes add richness, while a sweep of exotic spices keeps everything humming along beautifully. Matured for 24 months in a mix of new and second use French oak, the finish is long, rich and satisfying, lingering with confidence. Give this plenty of air because it rewards patience. Big love for this.
