More focused, more detailed and a big step up from the 2023. This Special Reserve Chardonnay from Huntington Estate is a touch leaner and more precise than the Barrel Fermented Chardonnay.
Block 17 provides the fruit and the first 2,000L of free-run juice directed into this wine. Fermented in 40% new French oak, with 25% wild fermentation and 30% natural malolactic fermentation, it spent eight months in barrel.
Nectarines, lemon juice and yellow grapefruit provide a bright citrus core, while vanilla slice and pastry bring creamy richness. Almonds and cashews add a lovely roasted nuttiness. The detail is brushed across the palate with greater consistency, giving the wine a sense of focus and purpose. Chewy phenolics provide shape and texture, while the citrus vibe keeps everything moving. It's a big step up from the 2023, that's for sure. More precise, more detailed, this is a terrific drink.
