An energetic and vibrant Sparkling Fiano from Gunpowder Wines, it's a wine that I'd be more than happy to share with my friends.
Pressed and fermented in stainless steel before spending three months on gross lees, it has developed a delightful combination of freshness, texture and complexity.
Jasmine flowers, white field flowers and elderflower rise from the glass, followed by lemon rind, lemon juice and canned pear juice. There's an attractive creaminess through the palate, wrapped around a fine bead that gives the wine plenty of lift. Sourdough and bready nuances add complexity, while a fine tonic-like texture brings another layer of interest. A citrus tang drives the finish, leaving the palate refreshed and ready for another sip. It's a fizz with energy, but it waltzes rather than charges. Bright, creamy, textured and wonderfully easy to drink, this is exactly the sort of sparkling that deserves a place in the fridge for impromptu celebrations or gatherings. Big love. A terrific aperitif.
