Angullong Fossil Hill Barbera 2016

From the team at Angullong, “The Orange region has climatic similarities to Piedmont in Italy where the variety is widespread. We are really pleased with the quality we are seeing now that the vines are gaining some age.” A Barbera smashing the high hats and bringing the variety to life.

The 2016 Angullong Fossil Hill Barbera was de-stemmed with 20 percent left as whole berries for fermentation in order to create complexity and silkier tannins. It was matured in French oak puncheons (20% new) for 12 months. The hallmark of Barbera being its natural acidity and low tannin ensures the wine remains fresh and vibrant.

And it sure is fresh and vibrant. Classic Italian vino pleading for that pizza and pasta to accompany it - a match that goes so well.

It's such a good wine. It's tight but eases into a rhythm with time in the glass. Medium bodied fruit fills the mouth with pillows of deliciousness. Lots of savoury feels drive through late adding a classy touch. Supple with well-handled acidity leads to a long and moreish finish - a winner on many levels.

Drink now to five years.
