d'Arenberg The Laughing Magpie 2013

A really tidy Laughing Magpie release. So much happiness to be had in this bottle - and 5 years of aging has already been done for you.

A 94/6 blend, the Viognier component is best described as seen but not heard. The Shiraz does the leg work nicely. Dense fruit is generous yet soft aromas play out a neat yin and yang effect. A whiff of caramel adds another dimension. Dark berries, plums and chocolate - there's a firmness yet it softens at the same time. The soils play their part with a subtle minerally drive. Brick dust tannins slide through beautifully. Oh, I like thee.
