Oakridge Hazeldene Chardonnay 2017

Oakridge don't miss the mark much at all when it comes to Chardonnay and here's another ripper. The Hazeldene block neighbours the Willowlake site. Gee, it's hard to beat the calibre of neighbours like that.

This is all precision, but admittedly, it looked better with a little time in the glass. Quite tense early, it settled down and revealed its personality, one layer at a time.
Coconut husk and oyster shell is partnered by sizzling grapefruit and white stone fruit. The acidity is carefully etched, and curiously, the caramel I saw so prominently on opening had cooled its heels too. It's long and luscious - so good. No point asking if I'd have a glass, I'll have the bottle please.

The price has gone up $4 from the previous vintage but I'd be happy to pay an extra $10 - it's that good. Charge for this.

Drink to 2028.
