Many of the current vintages of Central Otago Pinot Noir have a little bit of age on their side which is great to see. This Reserve Pinot from Wooing Tree is an absolute treat.
Made from clone 115, 30% new French oak is used. The wine sees 16 months of oak all up. This is seriously complex. Deep rooted dark fruit shows edges of Cherry Ripe. The density is superb, and despite the power, there's a soft touch through the mouth rather than a brutish clout. A super smooth ride, it's long and persistent. Fine spices round off an epic finish. I tasted this at the cellar door and a bottle made its way back across the Tasman. Super impressive.
