A tidy example of medium bodied Shiraz and one which made its way home with me after a cellar door tasting last week. Balancing Rock sits on the former Preston Peak site at the southern end of the Granite Belt. The original vines were planted in 1996.
Delicious fruit unfurls with ease highlighted by blueberries, mulberries while raspberry patiently awaits its time to shine. A wave of plummy fruit adds further appeal but what gets my attention is the soft rub of white pepper across the palate. Clove bides its time and nips in late. Long and drying to finish, it's puckering with a brick dust tannin for good measure. A great drink.
Drink now to ten years.
