Popping my Tinta Barroca cherry. A Portuguese variety which has found a new home in the Riverland.
It's in such small quantities in Australia it doesn't even rate a mention on the very thorough Vinodiversity site.
A broad and firm wine, tannins grab a hold in two hands. Quite earthy with plummy scents and canned plum characters through the mouth. Warming peppery spice clings on to a longer than expected finish. Sturdy wines like this need big food - think casseroles and braised meats.
Drink now to five years.
