The Redmans have a knack for producing age worthy wines. Their cellar is well established and they are known to open a back vintage with substantial age to taste at the cellar door from time to time too.
Grown on vines over forty years of age, a quarter of this saw new French oak for eighteen months.
The striking feature about this wine is the balance. Each element is well handled and that extra time in bottle prior to release has ensured things have meshed together precisely.
Blackberries and cassis aplenty, cigar box, vanilla, black olive, dried herbs and puffs of earth all engage with ease. The mouth is coated generously with a fine dusting of spice to ponder. Over three days of tasting it evolved beautifully - improving each time. A subtle bay leaf characteristic and cautious mintiness moved to the fore with time too. A lovely wine in so many ways.
