Boydell's Reserve Shiraz Pinot Noir 2018

I spied this on the shelf at a Newcastle independent retailer and curiosity got the better of me. And I'm pleased it did - a superb Shiraz Pinot Noir from the Hunter Valley.

Located on the banks of the Allyn River, the property was originally settled by Charles Boydell in 1826 and was recently bought by Daniel and Jane Mourilis at the end of 2016. Vines cover seven hectares of the property and are contract made by Liz Silkman at the First Creek facility - winning!

Soft and delicate, this weighs in at 12.8% alcohol. Rubs of Hunter earthiness unfurl below dried red flowers, some red cherry, blackberries, lithe blue fruits and fine spices. Baked raspberry bowls along as the common thread - delightful. Lemony acidity knocks everything into shape leaving a fine Dutch chocolate lingering and fine tannins.
