Curly Flat Western Pinot Noir 2019

This Western moves with grace but there is a focus and sophistication about it. My pick of the three Curly Flat Pinot Noir 2019 releases.

Pardon the 2018 bottle pic, one of the downsides of pre-release samples. The struggle is real. These Pinots will be officially hitting the ground in mid-May.

Only the second release of this single-vineyard wine, an alluring depth is the highlight but it doesn't possess clout you'd expect. A steely gaze early on comes in the form of a little tension but the stand-off is quickly put to rest and the pretty factor takes hold. Delicate soft cherry fruit, bright red flowers sauteed mushrooms, and scents of dried herbs work in unison. Unlike its siblings, there is no new oak used here, only second and third use barrels (83/17). The flow through to the palate is faultless and the herby goodness makes its mark. The age-worthy potential is written all over it as soft spices curl around the mouth calling you back for more. An excellent Pinot.
