Peter McGlashan bleeds for his Chardonnay. Such is his passion, I must admit I keenly await this release each year. This 2021 can be best described as lean and delicate.
To see it at its best, I suggest just holding on to it for a little while. On opening, it was shy and muted, but after a few days, it dropped its guard and showed its true self.
Lemon juice and white nectarines slowly unfurl. Some yellow grapefruit started to emerge also. Well-handled oak imparts impressive waves of vanilla slice and a soft creaminess. Be sure not to serve too cold, the longer it sat in the glass the more expressive it became although the fruit thinned out a touch more than I preferred. I'd like to revisit it in a couple of years, and given what I have experienced with producer over the years, they continue to blossom in time.
