Yalumba The Tri-Centenary Grenache 2013

Gorgeous Grenache from 820 bush vines classed as ancient - planted in 1889. Handpicked and treated with kid gloves, just under 4000 bottles are produced.

Beautifully medium bodied, earthy and plummy aromas strike early. A few more swirls of the glass bring red licorice and char to the fore. The mouth is consumed by bitter chocolate, spiced plums - the thread of earthiness clear. There's a density to the fruit which is captivating and it's hard not to be consumed by its beauty. Soft to finish, tea-like tannins sit long and proud.

Drinking beautifully now, careful cellaring will see it through to eight years with ease.
