Patrick Coonawarra Grande Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon 2012

The flagship of the Patrick Coonawarra range, this Cabernet 2012 release is a brilliant example of what Cooonwarra does best.

Eight years young, there's a little youthful exuberance on opening. Aromas of delicious Cabernet spill from the bottle. Once decanted, it's true personality shines.

Cut tomato bush stems, dried thyme and sage plus black olives open proceedings. The more you look at this wine the more it peels back veneers of interest. Old leather and earthy feels wash through the mouth in an absolutely causal manner. There's a delicate beauty evident although it does have a firmish presence in the mouth. That relaxes as time passes yet it also points to the long life ahead. Those herbs just don't let go and embrace the ride from the outset. Dusty tannins, bordering on powdery, sit on a most persistent and satisfying finish. Brilliant! Just brilliant.
