A great single vineyard Shiraz from Balgownie's Bendigo Estate.
A wine made with two separate ferments. The first was made with 15% whole bunch and 20% whole berry and wild yeast. The second saw 40% whole bunches and 20% whole berry and inoculated after two days of cold soaking. Both components saw 12 months in oak, 15% of which was new.
Pretty aromas of violets and blue fruits captivate from the outset. It reminds me of blueberry brownies. More time in the glass gives rose petals an opportunity to rise up too. Black and blue fruits ride atop a wave of black earth which rolls out some dusty road feels. A gentle savoury drive can be seen too, a result of the partial whole bunch fermentation. A little drying with fine cocoa like tannins, the aromas have me hooked as I sip slow.
