I get to see a bucket load of wine - something for which I'm very grateful. Some get glance and it's job done. Others need some time over a few hours or a few days. Here's an example of the latter. A beauty if you have patience.
This was all tense and pent up early on opening. The beauty of checking out a wine over a few days can be evidenced right here. Two days later I revisited and it was shining like a beacon. But there's some history with that too...
A few weeks ago winemaker Ray Costanzo shared a Golden Grove Estate Shiraz 2007 with me. At the time, the wine was sold for $25. For a 13 year old wine it was glistening! Damn it was good. Fast forward to this and longevity is in its veins. This Shiraz will comfortably live for well over a decade - and for a mere $28 it's bangs the bargain drum hard.
Black berries and black fruits swim at ease. Black pepper, lashings of cocoa, some red plums along with a nip of blueberries all add interest. The tannins have calmed immeasurably over a few days and edge on powdery. Beef ribs or steak, be patient or decant for several hours and you'll be blessed with a fabulous result.
