Meerea Park Black Shiraz 2018

Meerea Park's flagship. This was supposed to be a one off in 2011 but the good Hunter years keep coming. Now the fourth release of this label ('11,'14,'17,'18), the 2018 Hunter Valley vintage is said to be off the charts. Some suggest better than 2014.

This is bigger than I expected. Much bigger (14.5%). Dense and rich, it seems to have taken an exit too late and missed the medium bodied turn off on the freeway.

Dense plum fruit bordering on compote. Rum and raisin for days. Shards of dark chocolate run deep and long. And then there's oak. Perhaps overplaying it's hand but is this a drink for now? Released too early maybe? I'd love to see where it is in two years but you get sense it is a street fighter ready to get on with the business and all else can wait. Patience here friends and the tide may turn.

Drink 2022 to ten years+
