Thorn Clarke Ron Thorn Shiraz 2017

Some things require a little more patience than others, here is a case in point. A most impressive wine at this stage, give it a few more years and the wow factor will be extreme.

It's dense and deep - handfuls of pleasure await. Scents of cedar seep through early with dark chocolate, cloves and cardamom tucked in behind. It tastes of vanilla and coffee grounds with a melted chocolate creaminess. Baking spices and licorice add to the veneers of interest as do tinges of green herbs. It's long and persistent but all elements are yet to have fused together - it was clear after a few days of tasting and how time brought things together beautifully.

Give it time, it needs it. Even a decant for a few hours. Resist the temptation to dive in early. Wines like these are built for later, not now - that caterpillar that metamorphosises into a beautiful butterfly.
