Here's a variety I don't see much. It's great to see Irvine ripping in and giving it a crack - and differently too I might add. Through the hands of winemaker Rebekah Richardson, Irvine is aiming to capture a delicate expression of what is traditionally a bold and punchy wine.
Made from 30-year-old vines, cooler ferments, minimal skin contact and aging in one-year-old French oak were all employed to develop complex flavours.
Handled with kid gloves, this is beautifully delicate. Medium bodied (only 13.7% alc), a captivating perfume evokes interest immediately. Red flowers, some blue fruit, dates and cherries. Fine spices surround the fruit with a plummy drive and whispers of baked raspberry. The length just sits, almost refusing to move. A gorgeous drink and one which I could go back to again and again.
Drink now to five years.
