Not a great year for Hunter red wines but it's those tough years are when the great winemakers stand up. Wrap your arms around this superb rendition of Hunter Valley Shiraz.
An energetic number, scents of hibiscus syrup early followed by pretty aromas of dried red roses. Red earthiness follows before leading to delicate and dainty red fruit and red berries in the mouth. Blackberry flanks the fruit chipping away in the background. Time in the glass reveals game and leathery characteristics too. The fruit is still primary, as one would expect, but a little rest for another year or two will only be of benefit. For where it sits now though, superb is a word that keeps spinning around in my mind.
