Exciting things are happening at Hayes Family Wines at the moment. The newly built cellar door is nearing its opening day and the wines are continuing to make the right noises.
Beautiful colours in the glass. A cerise hue and dark purples get my attention. A swirl of the glass and cedar, wood smoke and dark berry compote leap from the glass. Fruit sweetness hits and sticks to the front palate before rolling through the mouth to a drying finish. That cedar touch rides from gate to post pinning dark berry fruit and lip-smacking tannins to it. I look back at the glass with the viscosity leaving legs for days as all moisture is drawn from the mouth. A wine for those seeking a big, muscular type.
Drink now with a big steak or cellar for a decade plus.
