Soul Growers El Mejor Cabernet Shiraz Mourvedre 2017
Soul Growers boss man Paul Heinicke tells me his wines represent the very best of the Barossa showcasing individual growers, Barossa sub-regions and the very best barrel selection from the vintage. This blend is an alluring beast.
Made from 100% pressings, 100% new French and American oak were used. A wine exuding power and depth, the oak component certainly plays its hand. Perhaps a little more than hoped.
Caramel and burnt toffee seep through the wine along with sandalwood and cedar. It wasn't until a couple of days later the noose of the oak had been released but the oak was still prominent. The black and blue fruit is deep, dense and brooding. It's that big personality in the room. That loud talker of sorts. Brown spices lace the palate gracefully on close with a pulsating moreishness. Stick it in a dark place and time will be its friend.
