Penley Estate Giliam Light Dry Red 2021

Crack this ripping bottle of delight. It's such a joyous wine that brings an inner smile. A smile in a bottle if you will. Yes!

Medium-bodied, this is all vibrant and dancy fruit owning the dance floor. Cabernet Franc and Merlot partner up to showcase blackcurrants and blueberries all with unadulterated pleasure. Soft spices and star anise kick in with a soft touch of chocolate. So moreish, so good! But what I'm loving is the excitement Penley Estate and a couple of other Coonawarra producers are bringing to what are seen as traditional and 'boring' (for some) varieties. Given the thirst for Emerging Varieties in other regions, Coonawarra has stood up to the challenge with their game face-on. Gone are those one-dimensional wines to examples like this showing energy and fruit purity. Need another example? Check the Project E. Boom! Clever winemaking is the cornerstone - well-played Kate Goodman and Lauren Hansen. A wine that will take a slight chill in warmer months, take two to a gathering with friends - one won't be enough, trust me.

Drink now to three years.
