An impressive Mataro that is ready for you to sink your teeth into. This is the first release of this wine - a celebration of the 100-year-old vineyard that was planted in 1920. Mataro lovers ought to black book this as it's due for release in coming months.
I've seen a lot of Barossa Mataro of late and this release from the slightly cooler Clare Valley is a pleasant change. Dense, weighty and smokey, the mid-palate is feathered with interest and texture. It's fine and edging on powdery. Pretty scents of violets and purple flowers rise up delicately with a sophisticated charm. Drying, smoked meats and blue fruits muse with ease. Finely spiced, long and dangerously persistent, this is a fabulous wine hands down and one that grows immensely with time in the glass. So with that, I pour another glass. Big love!
Drink to eight years.
