Patrick Coonawarra Home Block Cabernet Sauvignon 2016

Patrick of Coonawarra is one of the quiet achievers in the historic region. One of their strengths is their ability to produce age-worthy reds and whites. This Cabernet off the Home Block is no different. By the way, I love the new labels.

From the website: the wine spent 2 years in French (90%) & American (10%) tightly grained, medium toast oak barriques. 60% new oak, 40% seasoned. Aged in bottle for an additional 4 years in the Patrick Cellars.

There is a consistent shape about the Patrick reds and this holds the model true. On opening, be greeted by choc mint before cedar and sandalwood fuse together and produce something akin to the famed Caramello Koala but that moves on after can't be seen on day two of tasting. Sheets of black fruits lay beneath with cameos of black olives and leather. Some tension in the mid-palate, this is a wine built to live long. Those patient enough will reap the reward in the many years to come. Either that or just give it a good decant now. Great stuff.

Drink to ten years+
