Long Gully Estate Malakov Vineyard Syrah 2020

Malakoff or Malakov? The label states the latter which no doubt is an oversight. But then plums were misspelled on the label as 'plumes'. Little errors like these take the gloss off a pretty, fragrant and delicious Pyrenees Syrah.

I've seen plenty of Nebbiolo from the Malakoff site but not much Syrah. It's a refreshing change in some respects.

I was unable to locate the correct bottle pic but you get the idea from above.

Violets, dried purple flowers and blueberry jam have me in the zone. Dried figs, dried fruits, black plums, and charcoal all make a surge forward on opening. A day on and those dried fruits take a back seat. Quite drying, fine spices rumble through the mouth and clutch to a longer than expected finish. A flash of warmth lingers too. It's the type of wine that has me thinking of a souvla - that cool night satisfaction of kicking back and watching meat spin over coals - if you're a carnivore like me I suppose.
