The third of a very tidy set of wines received from Margaret River's Altair Estate, this Malbec is the goods. Souvla, tomato-based pasta dishes and burgers are calling.
Initially, the fruit feels a little loose-knit on the front palate but it's all business out the back where it seizes up. Purple flowers, stewed blueberries and baked blueberries, dark plums and boysenberries roll out the introduction. Some char, tomato bush with sage, thyme and a flash of tar, there is an earthy drive that is the common thread bringing all elements together. A respectable finish reaches out with fine spices and silky tannins adding the final touch. Above all, this is a really good drink.
