Yalumba Tri-Centenary Grenache 2022

A brilliant wine once again, the Tri-Centenary is a Grenache to be enjoyed once it's given some air to breathe. It's not a strong performer in wine shows for that very reason. Kick back, let it open up and embrace the incredible delight that it is.

Planted in 1889, these 820 Ancestor bush vines (125 years+) are grown in sandy loam and red-brown clay soils. This wine's time on skins makes it unique and stand out from the pack. That time varies slightly from year to year and this 2022 vintage saw 372 days.

Meaty and gamey first up with juicy raspberries emerging, pretty red petals and violets seek your attention. The use of whole bunches drives the savoury profile with some sauteed mushrooms, dried twigs and apricot kernel.

Red currants, red cherries and pomegranate hit the bullseye. Earthy and woodsy spices wrap around a layered and captivating mid-palate dripping with interest. Blood orange and shards of dark chocolate cling to a sustained finish where those fine exotic spices run long and memorably. Oh my, sip slow and embrace the glory of a Grenache handled like no other.
