Delicate textural detail is brushed throughout this Varney Wines Chardonnay from the Adelaide Hills. A great wine for the money, it carries an alluring complexity for the win.
Sourced from two Adelaide Hills vineyards, the fruit was handpicked, cold pressed and wild yeast fermented on full solids in French oak. A portion was whole bunch pressed and another saw carbonic maceration. All up, it spent seven months in oak.
Layers of interest unfurl with ease kicking off with sourdough, wafer biscuits, vanilla slice creaminess and flashes of custard powder. Some concentration from white fleshed stonefruit rolls along with flickers of yellow peach. That texture has me wriggling forward to the front of my seat. Leaving a fine detail in its wake, this is a beautiful drink that screams value.
