Flametree Chardonnay 2017

I must admit, I do get excited when samples from Flametree arrive.

But I've got to say, I was left wanting on this occasion - the first time for the brand admittedly.

It's a Chardonnay which, to a degree, comes across tense and chunky.

The acid and fruit don't quite mesh, and although varietal goodness tries to emerge, it seems stifled. Grapefruit and white stonefruits lurk within. Add some minerality and the bones are certainly there. Harsh the detractor though - something which I couldn't shake even on the second day of tasting. Perhaps time will be it's friend?
