Super smart Pinot from Orange. Who wouldda thought? The class of Duncan Cook shines again.
Orange holds its own with a number of varieties, yet it's interesting the number of people I come across who do the double take when they learn that Orange is a great wine producing district. "I never knew they grew grapes there," they say.
Clever Pinot here. Varietal and then some.
Briar, twigs, mushroom compost and tantalising red fruit aromas to get you in the mood. Black tea like tannins cordon themselves around a core of red and dark cherry fruit with touches of plum. Nicely weighted, its complex and sits pretty in the mouth with some dried herbs chipping in late. If you want to break a few perceptions, sidle up to this.
Drink now to eight years.
