The Leeuwin Estate Art Series is the Chardonnay boss, but if it's price tag is well out of reach, you lose little with a bottle of this under your wing. Simply, it's a gorgeous example of Margaret River Chardonnay.
Seeing French oak for nine months, forty percent of which was new, you get the sense this was treated as kindly as it's more famous sibling.
Aromas of barley sugar, peach skin and citrus spill from the glass. Moving seamlessly to the palate, they're joined by brioche and toast, vanilla from the oak and generous squeeze of lemon juice. A touch of nuttiness and a lick of almond meal too, it's hard to resist temptation as I move for a re-pour. Superb drinking for the money.
Drink now but it will evolve beautifully for eight years.
