Nanny Goat Queensberry Chardonnay 2020

Winemaker Alan Peters-Oswald has secured this site in Queensbury due to its unique terroir. The French use the word “terroir” to describe this, but the Kiwis use a Maori term “Turangawaewae” that is translated to “a place to stand” empowering connection to the land. Moving around the Central Otago district you can see the wines are a reflection of their soil and microclimates. This Queensberry Chardonnay is sublime!

The Queensberry sub-region, is approximately halfway between Cromwell and Wanaka alongside the Clutha River at the base of the northern end of the Pisa Mountain range.

From a BioGro Certified organic vineyard, this single-vineyard wine sees the benefits of the adoption of organic and regenerative viticultural practices, both environmentally and qualitatively.

This Chardonnay was whole bunch pressed to stainless steel tank before being transferred to 500L oak barrels for natural fermentation and maturation on lees.

How's it taste? This is serious. Seductively creamy, flinty with nutty nuances. Generous white-fleshed nectarines, almond meal and nougat fold into one another with a delicate melted butter presence. A slash of custard tucks in behind a lick of vanilla that just purrs. A slight minerally presence is a nod to these wonderful Central Otago soils. Chardonnay glory all the way.
