Ponting Mowbray Boy Pinot Noir 2020

Add Ricky Ponting to the list of celebrities releasing a wine. This Mowbray Boy Pinot is a tribute to his former club. The label clears the fence in style - I don't think you could capture cricket better on the front of a bottle. Well done there. A woollen vest would top it. Sourced from Tasmania's Tamar and made by the winemaker to the stars, Ben Riggs.

But all up, this is not very Pinot. It's more Ponting bludgeoning deliveries in a T20 than the finesse of Test cricket - that same test cricketer I saw score two centuries in one Test against the West Indies. This is firm. Very firm even after a couple of days tasting. Dusty and earthy through the mouth, it's big with a dark chocolate presence. Heavy plums weigh in too along with plentiful spice. It's more of a Shiraz than a Pinot and is hard to recommend.
