Fierce III Sagrantino 2019

Sagrantino is bold. It just doesn't know any other way. I suspect the three sisters behind this Fierce III label are quite bold too creating a label to celebrate their coming back together in the family business. A smart wine this.

The depth here is captivating but so too are the pretty aromas of dried purple flowers, violets and even a whisper of lavender. This saw 27 months in American oak prior to bottling. Baked plums, black cherries, black fruits and Christmas cake spices muse and deliver veneers of interest. Over a couple of days of tasting, it opened its arms and was quite welcoming. Shaved dark chocolate and dried herbs sneak in late. Drying with dusty and chalky tannins, enjoy this with a generous meal. Something cooked low and slow over the coals would be ideal.
