Clovely Estate Blanc de Blanc 2010

A traditional method Blanc de Blanc from Queensland's South Burnett - three hours north-west of Brisbane. With a climate not too dissimilar to the Hunter Valley, cool nights and fertile soils in prime dairy cattle land have enabled good fruit to be grown.

Made from 100% Chardonnay with six years on lees in the bottle. Whilst a good drink, this seems to be stuck in second gear. Lots of yeasty, wholemeal bread, brioche and creamy characters playing the main game, but some more get up and go would be of benefit. I was hoping for some more stone fruit to rear its head, but not to be. Stewed apple lingers along with a skinsy feel from the lees plus some a subtle ginger nut biscuit like spice to close. It goes okay.

Drink now to five years.
