This is all about rack dried Cabernet added to freshly picked Cabernet in the fermenter inspired by the Italian Amarone style. As the back label suggests, not for the faint-hearted.
It's a big number and I'm going to pull out that despised aroma descriptor for some - dead ant. Aromas of stewed fruit and Christmas cake follow. Roasted peppers slide into the mix too. The mouth is heavy and rich - stewed berries, caramel plus some earthy and mushroom composty characters too. I came back to this three days later to taste again, and wow, time will be its friend. What greeted me was a more sophisticated wine. The edges have been smoothed off, the fruit gliding with more blackberry and blackcurrant leaf characters shining. A brandy warmth soothes the soul. Oh, I like thee. Lock it away in dark place and come back in a few years.
