A single vineyard wine showing all the little things that glisten. Delicacy, depth, balance and length, it's an impressive Hunter Valley Chardonnay.
Sitting this beside the Signature Stockhausen Chardonnay 2021 is a joy. There are similarities but the mouthfeel and precision of the fruit are clear with this Briar Hill. Yellow fleshed stonefruit along with grilled peach lets that caramelised sugar characteristic shine - if you've done it on the barbecue you know what I'm talking about.
Figs and roasted cashews, there is a vanilla drive that is captivating. Some ruby grapefruit tries to get some wriggle room but the stonefruit keeps it all in check. The grapefruit acidity shows some form mind you - tick. I love the lemon meringue pie niche that steps forward. That lemony tang coupled with a pastry and creamy feel is right in my wheelhouse. Time in oak has shown some creaminess and enticing vanilla and pannacotta. I just want more.
A classic Hunter Valley Chardonnay and I loved it.
