I taste this and my mind goes back to a McLaren Vale trip in 2020. I learnt that unique parcels of Carignan are all over the district, but most of the fruit is blended away. When allowed to stand tall on its own (which is rare), it's a great drink - just like Exhibit A here.
Deliberately picked a little earlier to keep the alcohol content low, it was made with 50% whole bunches and sees old oak for six months. Bottled without fining or filtration.
Ferrous, sheets of earthiness stretch long. Purple and red fruits fuse together surging along. Quite moreish and with a delicious slurpability, sandy-like tannins are drying on close leaving a lick of sour cherries to ponder. Give it a slight chill and throw it at a barbecue or even those cool night fire pit wind-downs.
Drink to three years.
