Vino Intrepido Spanner in the Works Nebbiolo 2019

James Scarcebrook is The Intrepid Wino. His passion is contagious and you can find him discussing all things wine on his podcast named The Vincast or catch him going about his exploration on his YouTube site. He's also ventured into winemaking and has produced a range of wines since 2016. I was thrilled to receive an email from James not too long ago asking if I could review some of his new releases. And what a place to start with this beauty! This is no spanner in the works either, let it be known. It is best described as an impressive rendition of Nebbiolo.

A descriptor I picked up in Central Otago a few months ago was 'autumnal'. And this sure is, despite the fact we are deep into winter, but you get the gist...
Off the famed Pyrenees Malakoff vineyard, aromas of blackberry leaf and orange peel offer an encouraging introduction. Juicy red berries cut loose with dried cranberry tucking in behind. Dangerously moreish, it's juicy and dancy. Licorice, rubs of earth and a fine sprinkling of peppery spice all add interest. Silky, super fine tannins bring things to a close yet there's an upbeat vibe about it enticing you back for more. I loved it.

Drink to five years.
