There is a point in time when you think that Oakridge can't get any better and then a new vintage rolls over. What an incredibly pristine Chardonnay this Funder & Diamond Drive Block is. It is absolutely gorgeous from top to toe and is draped in silk and oozes sophistication.
The fruit was handpicked and whole bunch pressed seeing 20% new French oak for ten months before another six months in tank before bottling.
Every time I put the glass to my nose something new appears. The layers and detail are exquisite and the veneers of pleasure keep coming in the mouth.
It opens with lemons, almond meal, white fleshed nectarines, a blissful grapefruit drive and it possesses an incredible tang and joy as it walks with class and poise. Struck match and a faint touch of praline with sheets of vanilla keep the interest factor high. The grapefruit seems to wrap itself around the mouth in concentric circles to stay in the game, but the drive...!! Finely textured with a delicate and persistent length, what a brilliant Chardonnay this is!
