Mount Langi Ghiran Talus Shiraz 2021

Peppery, oaky, spicy and minty sum up this Shiraz from a flavour profile perspective, but it's the lack of drive and penetration from the fruit that draws my attention. For the money, it doesn't match what you'd expect. Perhaps some bottle age may help it come together, but for the moment, I can't see it.

It sees 40% new French oak for 15-18 months. Dark plums, dark cherries and some cloves walk with a beef bourguignon meaty presence. But the lack of drive and presence has me scratching my head. I know this label has shown better form, just not this time. Firmish acid frames the palate but there isn't all that much to hem in. Warmth from the alcohol is a little distracting but it's a cuddly warmth rather than a hot warmth. Buy two bottles of the Cliff Edge 2021 to one of these I'd suggest.
