Raidis Estate The Trip Cabernet Sauvignon 2016

The Trip is the big dog of the Raidis Estate clan, but given their love of goats, perhaps it's the Big Goat or the G.O.A.T.? Whatever way you look at it, it's an excellent insight into how contemporary Coonawarra Cabernet will look with some time under its belt.

And contemporary is the word with Raidis Estate. They are smart producers with a clever range of wines covering a range of price points.

This eight-year-old Cabernet is just a beautiful drink. It's a sheer delight. Not short on detail, licorice, cocoa, cedar, dried thyme, black olives, cloves and sage peel off veneers of interest with some black fruits and blueberries that are strong enough to peek through. There is no mistake though, that savoury presence that is the hero. Time has certainly been its friend but the delicacy and shape is where the party is at. There is plenty of wriggle room for the aging phase to completely transform the wine, too, with those excellent tannins showing plenty of life for now. Drink now or hold - you choose. Big love for this fabulous example of Coonawarra Cabernet.
