Some hefty savoury aromas offer a curious introduction to this interesting Tempranillo, Shiraz, Graciano (48/28/24) blend from Mudgee's Vinifera. And savoury is certainly the buzzword.
It opens with tilled earth, black tea leaves, paper bark and dried Mediterranean herbs. Black cherries and dried red currants shimmer through but play a secondary role. It feels firm with pillows of drying tannins yet it continues to open up and soften over a couple of days of tasting. A long drying finish is highlighted by fine spices and some earthiness as it slowly saps moisture from the mouth. This would be an ideal Sunday roast wine. A big thumbs up from me.
